Hot Chip - Made in the Dark
Hot Chip: Made In The Dark
What can be said about this album that has not been mentioned already? The album has, after all, been available for almost a year now. Although far from perfect, and a drop down from their two previous albums, Made in the Dark remains a staunch favourite of mine. Tracks such as ‘Ready for the Floor” are obviously something of a bridge, guiding you from the infectious electopop of The Warning to the return of the “beats and ballads” blend last seen so feverishly on Coming in Strong.
Make no mistake, this album shows a definite shift in the sensibilities of Hot Chip as a whole – this album is perhaps one of the best mixes of styles yet shown by the band – but where it falls flat is in the execution. Essentially, some of the songs on show are not up to the band’s (abeit high) standards – a few more weeks in the studio next time, perhaps?
Stand out Track: Ready for the Floor
Short-game: Not perfect, but still excellent.
Score: 4/5
